WE'RE STILL NOT SAFE FROM COVID-19. ARE THE VACCINES USELESS?

Updated: Oct 7, 2021

The vaccinated still get infected with SARS-CoV-2, infect others, get hospitalized, and suffer severe symptoms and die. Does it actually matter whether we're vaccinated or not?

Both the vaccinated and the unvaccinated can get infected with SARS-CoV-2.

Both can spread SARS-CoV-2.

Both can be hospitalized from COVID-19.

Both can die from COVID-19.

So are the outcomes the same? Is vaccination useless?

The answer is a resounding NO.

The clincher is in the numbers.

Both can get infected with SARS-CoV-2.

Yes, but the vaccinated will have 91% less risk of infection. This means that if you're not vaccinated, you are 10x more likely to be infected compared to a vaccinated individual.

Both can spread SARS-CoV-2.

Yes, but since the vaccinated will have a lower chance of infection, the chance of them transmitting the virus will also be low. Transmission will also be of shorter duration (6 days less) and at a lower rate. SARS-CoV-2 is 40% less detectable in their nasopharynx and they are 66% more likely to test negative after a week.

Both can be hospitalized from COVID-19.

Yes, but only around 0.005% of the fully vaccinated are hospitalized from COVID-19. Raw data (not studies) from different US hospitals indicate that 97-99% of admitted cases are unvaccinated, 1-3% are partially or fully vaccinated and they are those with co-morbidities.

Both can die from COVID-19.

Yes, but as we see in hot zones, the unvaccinated are almost 4x at risk from dying from COVID-19 compared to the unvaccinated. This is based on cases who are already admitted. As mentioned above, the hospitalized vaccinated individuals are more likely with co-morbidities so their risk of dying is higher compared to the vaccinated but without co-morbidities. Overall, 0.001% of all fully vaccinated individuals develop COVID-19 and die from it.

There's a world of difference in the outcomes in the lives of the vaccinated and the unvaccinated. Those could be trivial for someone. But for somebody else, it will cost him his life. Don't be that person.
